Ballroom Brawl III – Fight Card
On Friday, November 13, MaxFightsDM will return to the Val Air Ballroom with Ballroom Brawl III. The fight card will be rich in local, national, and international talent. Even better, the ten bout event is stacked with a diverse mix of fights and fighters – including recognized TV personalities and one of women’s most decorated boxing combatants. The Ballroom Brawl III main event will determine the winner of the MaxFightsDM Lightweight Belt.
Ted Worthington (seen above) will face Wisconsin’s Rob Roy. A local favorite, Worthington won the Polanti Watches Fighter of the Night Award at the previous Ballroom Brawl. Taking the fight with only a 24 hour notice, Worthington defeated Trujillo with an arm bar in the final moments of the first round. Worthington also secured a win over Jason Medina in the first MaxFightsDM event, and went on to defeat Darren Elkins in 13 seconds at the Duneland 6 in Indiana. Rob Roy is one of MMA’s more colorful figures, and is well-known for his starring role, impressive fighting skills and outstanding record in a Tapout TV episode. Roy has fought in numerous promotions across the country, and is also known for his WEC bouts against Charlie Kohler, and the MMA icon/WEC World Champion Jamie Varner.
Victor “Superman” Moreno (seen in the photo at your right) will be fighting John Cronk. Moreno is an IFL veteran, and owner of three world kickboxing titles. After amassing considerable wins over well-known and impressive opponents, Moreno has built a solid reputation as a fighting workhorse. He was specific in his desire for a solid stand-up style opponent, and it goes without question that MaxFightsDM has delivered. John Cronk has a deep-running MMA experience, in addition to kickboxing success, which makes him a formidable opponent for Moreno. Cronk originally fought from Denver, and is now based in Sioux City. Cronk has logged multiple King of the Cage events, and has was featured in Jeremy Horn’s Elite Fight Night promotion. His best known opponents include Diego Sanchez, Matt Hughes, and Shonie Carter.
As interest in women’s MMA is increasingly pushed to new heights, MaxFightsDM fans will be able to witness Des Moines first women’s professional MMA bout in three years, and one that is clearly worth waiting for. Emily Klinefelter ,boxer and MMA fighter, will face Brittany Dale in the 130 pound class. Klinefelter holds numerous boxing awards, including 13 national titles and two Gold Medals from the Pan Am Games in Brazil. She has fought all over the world and owns a 5-0 MMA record, and 6-0 pro boxing record. Brittany Dale has directed the majority of her training regimen to boxing in preparation for this fight. Brittany’s brother, Willie Dale (also included on the Ballroom Brawl III fight card, facing Matt Dominguez), is a member of the Miletich Fighting Systems camp and an accomplished wrestler. He is working with her in regards ground and submission techniques.
Other key fights include Tim Gorman vs. Jared Downs. Gorman is clearly on his way up, but will need to get past Down to get to the big stage, since none of Down’s opponents have made it beyond the first round. Abel Trujillo will square off against Ben Crowder, in what (according to MaxFightsDM match maker Brian Green) is a contest of two amazingly similar fighters. Cory Simpson will return to MaxFightsDM to face McKenzie Jackson in a match-up that clearly puts the brawl smack in the center of the ballroom. Brad Floyd will be featured as well.
